Giving Back
Opening our doors to the community
The College of Veterinary Medicine honors the Mississippi State University mission of service through various initiatives designed to help improve our state, nation and world. Our faculty, staff and students reach out in many ways to provide services to the community, promote the field of veterinary medicine, and engage members of the public in a variety of events and activities.
Open to the Public
Open Doors
Welcoming the public
The College of Veterinary Medicine opens its doors to tour groups and to the general public throughout the year.
On-site tours are encouraged for students applying to the College (high school juniors and seniors, undergraduate, post-graduate and professionals). Our Annual Open House is a great opportunity for community members and school groups to visit the College. The two-day event is full of hands-on activities and learning experiences for visitors of all ages.
Community Engagement
Improving animal care and health
We are committed to sharing our knowledge and working with our community partners to improve animal care and health.
MSU CVM’s mission to protect and improve the health and quality of animal well-being extends well beyond the College’s classrooms and laboratories and into the state of Mississippi and the southeastern region.
For future veterinarians
Students 10-17
Summer Veterinary Camp
Each summer, MSU CVM offers a series of fun, educational camps specifically for students age 10 to 17 with dreams of one day becoming a veterinarian, scientist or working in an animal-focused career.
MSU Vet Camp is a hands-on experience led by actual veterinary medicine professors with the assistance of current veterinary students, who serve as camp counselors. Camp features a variety of interactive labs, allowing participants to explore the world of veterinary medicine.
VetAspire
A Veterinary Student for a Day
VetAspire is an exciting program that enables a select group of high school and undergraduate students to spend a day at MSU CVM. On six occasions a year, five students are selected and participate in the program, giving them the opportunity to experience the field of veterinary medicine first-hand.
VetAspire is led by actual MSU CVM professors with the assistance of current veterinary students, and those attending participate in clinics, lectures, and hands-on activities in the Wise Center, home to the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine.
