CVM Family,
It’s been a busy few weeks at Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Most notably, for a week in early February, we had more than 350 students from all over the world interviewing for our Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program. If the many students I met with are any indication, the future looks bright.
To all of you who took the time to assist with interviews, we thank you. To all the students who were interviewed, remember that getting to the interview phase of the process is an achievement in and of itself. Well done all of you.
We wear several hats here at the CVM. Of course, we are a teaching institution, a research institution, and a healthcare facility, but we also serve as something of a community hub. I recently learned, for instance, that the disc golf course that spans the campus of the Wise Center is one of the most popular courses in the state. The nature of our work engenders curiosity and regular visits from the public; that’s why we host an open house for local schools and the public each year and why we provide several summer camps for students interested in veterinary medicine. You can learn more about the open house and the camps in the February 2025 edition of Pegasus Press. Registration is open for both, and we hope to see many of you and your family members in the coming weeks and months.
Sharing the stories of our people is a wonderful way to help all of you get a sense of the outstanding group of students, faculty, and staff that the CVM has. That’s why I’m especially pleased that the February 2025 issue of Pegasus Press highlights two of our own: Maxi Malmstrom, a student recently highlighted by the University and Casey Lavender, the first student featured in our new “Vetting the Future” series.
Friends of the college help us advance our mission. Also featured in this issue of Pegasus Press is the announcement of the creation of the Melody and Steve Golding Endowed Scholarship. We could not accomplish all that we do without people like Mr. and Mrs. Golding.
As the newsletter evolves and changes, we’d like to hear from you and learn what you think of this latest endeavor. If you have any feedback, please send it to our marketing and communications manager, Wade Leonard.
Until next time,
Dr. Nicholas Frank
